Jerry Grant Performance and Career News
An invitation was extended to Jerry to be a visiting professor at California State University in Chico 2006-2008. He teaches Melodic Invention/Songwriting from a historic, stylistic and creative point of view in addition to tutoring in the Young Composers program for Music in the Mountains.
4 SONGS WITHOUT WORDS for soprano & Piano was premiered Nov 2007 at the NCCC benifit concert. AGREEMENTS & DISAGREEMENTS for 2tubas & Drums was premiered and recorded in Portugal July,2007. World class tubist, Sergio Carolino also recorded TIME CYCLES for Tuba & Electronics in 2007. CHANGING LIGHT for Alto Fl., Bsn, Vibes & dbl Bass received 5 performances in N. Calif and the Bay area, Nov.2006 and is scheduled for performance Feb.2008 at Rice Univ.in Houston, Tx. LYRIC QUINTET for woodwinds 1992, was performed at Twin Cities concerts Ap.2007 and the Music in the Mountains Summer Festival in June 2007. and was also was performed at CSU Sacramento at the New Music Festival in Nov.2004 and at CSU Chico New Music Festival Feb.2005.
CLASSICAL SERENADE for Oboe, Bassoon, Piano and Strings 2006,commissioned by Music in the Mountains for Mozart's 250th b'day, premiered at their 2006 fall festival with Jerry conducting the Solisti Glitterati.
POPOKI, The Color of Peace, a DVD commissioned for the Japanese Peace Museum in Tokyo, with crayon drawings by Ronnie Alexander, was presented at the SOUND & VISION Festival in Nevada City, Ca. March 2007, with the Nevada County Composer's Cooperative.
DREAMCATCHERS: Songcycle for Soprano, Cello and Piano 2006, was performed at the 2006 WET INK concert,CSUS November 2006 New Music Festival,CSUC Nov.2007 New Music festival and scheduled at Twin Cities Concerts in Feb 2008. The 4 songs are based on American Indian poems of the Shoshone and Navaho tribes.
RUSH HOUR Jerry Grant and the L.A. Nujazz Alternative is available on cdbaby.com. and is receiving airplay in many parts of the world thru RaidoDirectX. The NUJAZZ ALTERNATIVE also lives as a new sextet with Jerry performing on tenor sax & synth.
DANCE FRAMES for Tenor Saxophone, Electronics and 3 Dancers 2005, was performed at the WET INK new music concert as part of the Music in the Mountains Summer Festival 2005 in addition to 4 performances at the Movement Alliance Dance Festival, Nov. 2005 and the CSU Chico New Music Festival 2006. Jerry performed on tenor saxophone.
The album entitled THE BIG STRETCH features New Music for Tuba and includes Jerry's work TIME CYCLES for Tuba & Electronics. Jim Self has composed four of the compositions on the album and is a fine composer in addition to being a master tubist. The album is available on Amazon.com. IN MEMORIAM: for solo French Horn and prerecorded horns 2005, was presented on April 13, 2007 at the NCCC Salon. It premiered at the 2005 Memorial Day event in Grass Valley, CA. honoring the fallen soldiers in the Iraq war. This was a powerful event where 1800 crosses were piled 6 feet high. The piece was performed followed by a reading of the names of the soldiers who had died in Iraq.
